Profile
Ming LU is Distinguished Professor of Economics, Director of Shanghai Institute for National Economy (SHINE), and research fellow of China Institute of Urban Governance at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He is also an adjunct professor at Fudan University, Singapore Management University and Dongbei University of Finance and Economics. He worked as a Fulbright Scholar at Harvard University and National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER). He has consulted for the World Bank and Asian Development Bank. His research covers labor economics, regional and urban-rural development, and Chinese economy. Recently, his work evaluates the urban and regional development policies, and their effects on resource allocation and economic sustainability.
Research
Prof. LU’s research has mainly focused on Labor Economics (income distribution, and migration), Development Economics (urbanization, and regional development) and Social Economics (social network, trust and economic development).
As the head of the project, Prof. LU has hosted many provincial and national projects sponsored by National Natural Science Fund, National Social Science Fund and Ministry of Education. Besides, he has hosted international projects cooperated with the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.
Prof. LU has published The Space Power, China' s Economic Development: Institutions, Growth and Imbalances ( co-author ), and China' s Regional Development: Review and Prospect (one of the editors ), A New Economic Growth Engine for China (one of the editors ), China’s Development Road of Major Economy(co-author), China’s Regional Economic Development : Review and Prospect (co-author ), The Market Integration and Industrial Agglomeration in the China Regional Economic Development (co-author), The Wages and Employment Bargaining Theory : Study on the Efficiency of China's Dual Employment System, etc.
Prof. LU’s books Labor Economics and Economics of Labor and Human Resources were selected as important textbooks of “Ten-Five Year Plan” and Macroeconomics was selected as important textbook of “Eleven-Five Year Plan” by the Ministry of Education
Prof. LU’s papers were published in foreign magazines such as Journal of Comparative Economics, World Development, Journal of Housing Economics, and Review of Income and Wealth, and Chinese magazines such as China Social Science, The Economic Study, The Economics (Quarterly), The World Economy, and The Management World.
Prof. LU has obtained National Prize for Distinguished Ph.D. Dissertation, Shanghai Philosophy and Social Science Award, Humanities and Social Science Research Award for Outstanding Achievement in Colleges and Universities in China awarded the Ministry of Education, Distinguished Research Prizes of Human Resources Study awarded by the Ministry of Personnel, etc.
