Shanghai Institute for National Economy (SHINE) is a platform of economics and policy research. Researchers at SHINE carry out both academic and policy researches on various topics, including urban and rural development, macro-economy and finance, as well as industrial development and innovation. SHINE represents the "Chinese voice" in in-depth international dialogue and expresses professional opinions on the cutting-edge issues in China's economic reform and development.

A series of activities such as Antai Policy Forum, Jingbang Lundao Lectures given by distinguished scholars, the annual international conference on China development studies, seminars on spatial-political economics, etc. hosted by SHINE have become well-known brand activities and attracted close attention from the mainstream media.

Since its establishment, SHINE has had an important impact on national policy-making. On November 10, 2017, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences released the Comprehensive Evaluation AMI Research Report on Chinese Think Tanks (2017). SHINE was successfully included in the " Comprehensively Evaluation of Chinese Think Tanks Core List", and has been ranked among the most influential economic policy think tanks in China.
