ESCP Professor Michael Haenlein Delivered a Lecture at Antai 2025-03-21

On the afternoon of March 18, 2025, Professor Michael Haenlein, a renowned marketing scholar, delivered an engaging lecture, The Long River of Knowledge: How Business Research Creates Enduring Influence at Antai, invited by its journal, Journal of Management Analytics (JMA).


Professor Haenlein, currently a professor in marketing at ESCP Business School, serves as the President-Elect Designate of the Academic Council of the American Marketing Association (AMA), the Vice President of Publications for the European Marketing Academy (EMAC), and an Associate Editor for several leading journals, including the International Journal of Research in Marketing, Journal of Marketing, and JMA. He is among the top 30 most cited marketing academics worldwide.


During the lecture, Professor Haenlein delved into how management research can generate long-term societal impact based on his own research. He began by defining long-term influence of management research and its measurement, followed by a discussion on dependent variables that enhance long-term impact. He introduced Responsible Research in Business and Management (RRBM), emphasizing that studies focusing not only on corporate outcomes but also on an expanded set of dependent variables at the stakeholder, societal, and planetary levels are more likely to achieve enduring impact.


Professor Haenlein further elaborated on the drivers for social impact. Notably, his research revealed that studies with at least one female author are more likely to be covered by journalists. He highlighted the significant role of transmission outlets like Harvard Business Review in disseminating academic findings and demonstrated how generative AI can be leveraged to enhance research influence. Professor Haenlein also shared updates on his recent research and offered valuable advice to doctoral students.


The lecture, centered on the social value of academic research, provided valuable insights for scholars at various career stages, leaving attendees greatly inspired. After the lecture, Professor Haenlein engaged in in-depth discussions with Antai faculty and students.
