内容简介:
This study examines how different match funding schemes influence donor behavior in civic crowdfunding. Using over ten years of data from Goteo.org, we compare the effects of goal matching (a lump-sum donation committed by the matcher conditional on the attainment of a pre-defined funding goal) and dynamic matching (real-time matching at a constant rate for each individual donation transaction). We argue that the right theoretical lens is the donor's perceived impact: donors derive utility not from giving itself, nor from total dollars raised, but from the marginal contribution their pledge makes to project outcomes. Critically, we find that the two matching schemes produce sharply asymmetric effects on crowd contributions and donor engagement, especially after goal attainment. These findings highlight the importance of matching scheme design and the timing of match fund deployment relative to the funding goal, with implications for platform owner, institutional matchers, and civic crowdfunding practitioners.
