The ACEM Doctoral Students Forum (ADSF) provides an opportunity for doctoral students to present, discuss and receive feedback on their work-in-progress research from a panel of established researchers in the related areas. This one-day event drives high impact by exposing the attendees to research that they may not have otherwise encountered.

Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) is a domestic first-class and internationally renowned university. Antai College of Economics and Management (ACEM) has long been leading in SJTU’s overall development, and in Chinese business education overall. For decades, China’s Ministry of Education has consistently evaluated the College as a top business school in China. In 2011, we became the first business school in China to be accredited by all three of the world’s most authoritative business school accreditation entities: AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA. Our four related subjects are all ranked top 60 globally in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023. Business & Management Studies is ranked 32nd globally and 1st in China mainland.  Accounting & Finance is ranked 39th globally and 3rd in China mainland. Statistics & Operational Research is ranked 43rd globally and 3rd in China mainland. Economics & Econometrics is ranked 56th globally and 4th in China mainland.

- We welcome all doctoral students interested to submit their work related to the above themes to the ADSF.

- The submitted paper is required to be unpublished, original, and free from copyright disputes. Both in Chinese and English are acceptable.

- Paper format: 中文论文请参考《管理世界》、《经济研究》文章格式;Paper in English please refer to the formats of Management ScienceThe American Economic Review.

Speaker

Chao-Chuan Chen (PhD, State University of New York at Buffalo) is Distinguished Professor at Rutgers Business School, Rutgers University. He is  past president of the International Association of Chinese Management Research (IACMR) and consulting editor of Management and Organization Review. His current research interests include cross-cultural management, business ethics, corporate social responsibility and responsible leadership. His publications have appeared in leading management journals including Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Administrative Science Quarterly, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of International Business Studies, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Organization Science, Business Ethics Quarterly, and Journal of Business Ethics.

 

Speech 2: Empirical Research in Marketing: Retrospect and Prospect

Speaker

Hongju Liu is Professor of Marketing at the Guanghua School of Management, Peking University. He received his Ph.D. and MBA from the Booth School of Business, University of Chicago. He also has an MA in Mathematics and an MS in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a BS in Mathematics from Peking University. His research focuses on the areas of dynamic structural models, digital markeing and big data analytics, pharmaceutical markeing and healthcare markets. Professor Liu has published in leading academic journals such as the Journal of Marketing Research, Management Science, Marketing Science, and MIS Quarterly.

 

Speech 3: The digital transformation of accounting education and research: opportunities and challenges for Chinese scholars

 

Speaker

Professor Bin Ke is currently the Provost's Chair Professor at the National University of Singapore Business School. He has been appointed as "Changjiang Scholar" Chair Professor by the Ministry of Education of China and has served as the editor of Accounting Review and the President of the North American Chinese Accounting Professors Association. He has published over 20 papers in top journals such as The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting and Economics, and Journal of Accounting Research. His research interests include exploring and solving today's increasingly complex business problems through traditional or interdisciplinary research methods. In recent years, he has focused on digital transformation issues in the context of China's transition economy and emerging markets.

Speech 1Parallel Queues with Match-Dependent Utility: Empirical Evidence and Asymptotic Characterization

SpeakerDr. Yichuan Ding is currently an associate professor in the Desautels Faculty of Management, McGill University. Dr. Ding obtained his PhD in management science from Stanford University. Dr. Ding is an early-career researcher and has been honored as the Desautels Faculty Scholar. His research interests include optimization, queueing, and data analytics, as well as their applications in healthcare delivery systems, including emergency department operations, outpatient care, operation rooms, intensive care unit, and organ transplant. He has published on top-tier academic journals including Operations Research, Mathematics of Operations Research, Manufacturing and Service Operations Management, and Production and Operations Management.  His research has been funded by NSERC and FRQSC. Dr. Ding is the director of the Management Sciences Research Center and the director of the Global Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management Program in the Desautels Faculty of Management, McGill University. He currently serves as the associate editor for Manufacturing and Service Operations Management (M&SOM), Decision Sciences, and Operations Research Letters.

 

Speech 2: Dimensioning On-demand Vehicle Sharing Systems

SpeakerShining Wu is an associate professor in the Department of Logistics and Maritime Studies at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His research interests include sharing economy, queueing theory and its applications, data-driven optimization, behavioral operations management, and inventory management. He received his Ph.D. degree in Industrial Engineering and Logistics Management from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and B.S. in Statistics from Peking University, China. His research has appeared in Operations Research, Management Science, and other reputable journals.

Speech 1: Do Firms Set Pension Discount Rates Strategically

Speaker

Tong Yu is the Vigil M. Schwarm Professor of Finance in the Lindner School of Business at the University of Cincinnati. His research has been on asset pricing, institutional investments, risk management, and Fintech. He published in academic journals such as the Journal of Financial Economics, Management Science, Journal of Accounting Research, Journal of Financial Intermediation, Review of Asset Pricing Studies, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Banking and Finance, and Journal of Risk and Insurance. Tong received the Early Career Distinguished Scholarly Achievement Award from the American Risk and Insurance Association in 2011 and the Michael L. Dean Excellence in Graduate Teaching Award from the Lindner College of Business of University of Cincinnati in 2022, among other awards. He serves as associate editors of China Finance Review International, Financial Management, Financial Review, and several other academic journals. He co-founded the China International Risk Forum in 2015 which hosts special-issue conference with the Pacific Basin Finance Journal each year.

 

Speech 2 The Great Chinese Industrial Revolution

Yi Wen is a distinguished professor of economics at Shanghai Jiaotong University, Antai College of Economics and Management. Prior to joining Shanghai Jiaotong University in 2021, Yi Wen was an Assistant Vice President and Senior Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. Upon receiving his PhD degree in economics, Yi Wen served as Assistant Professor of Economics at Cornell University (1999-2005) and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (1996-1999), and received Full Professorship (offers) from University of Indiana Bloomington (2008), Tsinghua University (2008), and University of Warwick (2017). He took the offer from Tsinghua and taught there (2008-2016) at the capacity of CCB Chair Professor.

Yi Wen is the author of several influential books titled “The Making of an Economic Superpower―Unlocking China’s Secret of Rapid Industrialization,” (World Scientific Co. 2016), 伟大的中国工业革命》(清华大学出版社2016),《科学革命的密码——枪炮、战争与西方崛起之谜》(东方出版中心有限公司2021, and the author of more than 50 academic articles published in per-reviewed economic journals, including Econometrica, Review of Economic Studies, Journal of Monetary Economics, Journal of Economic Theory, American Economic Journal: Macroeconomics, European Economic Review, Review of Economic DynamicsJournal of Economic Dynamics and Control, and Journal of Money, Credit and Banking.

 

Speech 3Cross-discipline : Cross-disciplinary research innovation in the era of large language models

Speaker

Yaohui Jin is a tenured professor in the School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Chief Engineer of the Artificial Intelligence Institute, Vice President of the Smart Court Institute. Executive president of the Shanghai Baiyulan Open Research Institute, Chief Scientist of the National Key Research and Development Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology. His research interests include data governance and sharing architecture, spatiotemporal data mining and application, natural language understanding and deep learning, and open innovation with public participation. He serves as a member of the Expert Committee of the State Engineering Laboratory for Big Data Application Technologies to Enhance Government Governance Capability, a member of the Technical Committee of the State Broadband Mobile Communications Core Network Engineering Technology Research Center (Huawei), Vice Chairman of the China Open Source Cloud Alliance, and a member of the Expert Committee on Public Data Openness in Shanghai. He has published over 150 papers in international conferences and journals. He is enthusiastic about public welfare and science popularization, actively promoting "open innovation with public participation", and advocating interdisciplinary collaboration in data technology and environmental health, art design, and social governance.
