内容简介:

The American pragmatic philosopher C.S. Peirce described how a community of investigators must consult together in their search for answers to important philosophical questions. This idea later became known as a “community of inquiry”, a concept that has influenced several academic fields, including the history of science and educational pedagogy. We adapt the notion of “community of inquiry” to an investigation of the history of the field of operations science (which we define to include operations research, management science, and operations management). We explore how who is included in operation science’s “community of inquiry” has evolved over time, and what it may mean for the future of its scientific enterprise.

演讲人简介：

Christopher Ryan is an associate professor in the Operations and Logistics division in the UBC Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia. He obtained his PhD in Management Science at the UBC Sauder School of Business, advised by Maurice Queyranne. Before joining UBC Sauder he was an associate professor of operations management at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Christopher does research in optimization theory, game theory, contract theory, operations management, and video game design. His emerging areas of interest are operations of education and development, small business operations, the history and philosophy of the science of management, and pedagogy for business education, including K-12.
