内容简介:

This paper explores the dynamics of time management enabled by AI (in short, AI time management) and its impact on knowledge-intensive employees in professional service firms, where time and human capital are central to value creation. We develop a two-stage process model to theorize this interaction. In Stage 1, we conceptualize AI time management as the use of algorithms to structure time-related dimensions of work—synchronizing workflows, promoting temporal embeddedness (aligning employees to algorithmic rhythms), and inducing temporal deskilling (eroding employees’ autonomous time management capabilities). In Stage 2, we examine how employees coevolve with AI systems, with outcomes shaped by individual reflexivity: low-reflexivity employees experience burnout or exit, high-reflexivity employees pursue autonomy or strategic departure, and moderate-reflexivity employees adapt within a Red Queen cycle, expending effort with diminishing returns. By reframing algorithmic management as a form of temporal control—rather than solely performance optimization—we offer new theoretical insights into digital transformation and the coevolution of human capital in AI-driven workplaces.

演讲人简介:

Kun Liu is a tenured associate professor at Kent State University. He got his Ph.D. from University of Utah. He has published in leading journals such as Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Management, Research Policy, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, and Journal of Business Ethics, among others. He has been a guest-editor for Journal of Management Studies, and is currently on the editorial board of Journal of Business Research. In 2018, JBR awarded him a Best Reviewer Award. He currently has papers under R&R at Academy of Management Review and Journal of Business Venturing.
