Work in the past two decades, particularly in the most recent years, has been affected by a surge in technological progress that has blurred the boundaries between work and non-work roles. It is thus difficult for employees to achieve and maintain work–life balance and improve employee wellbeing. Job burnout is a prolonged response to chronic interpersonal stressors experienced on the job. In this seminar, Professor Siu will explain the concepts of work-life balance and job burnout and discuss research findings relating work-life balance and job burnout in western and Chinese societies. Professor Siu will suggest practical skills and intervention work for employees and HR professionals to achieve work-life balance so as to reduce job burnout in the challenging modern workplace.
演讲人简介:
Professor Siu Oi-Ling is the Head and Chair Professor of the Department of Psychology at Lingnan University, & Director of the Wofoo Joseph Lee Consulting and Counselling Psychology Research Center. Her research areas include occupational health psychology, specifically occupational stress, and work-life balance. Professor Siu served as the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Stress Management (2015 to 2020) & Associate Editor of the Journal of Occupational Health Psychology (since 2015). Since 2020, Professor Siu has been ranked as World's Top 2% Scientists by Stanford University and in 2025, she is ranked 14th in China and 6th in Hong Kong China in “Business and Management”. Since 2022, Professor Siu has been ranked as Best Scientists in Psychology in China by Research.com. She is also ranked by Scopus SciVal as No.2 in Asia Pacific in Work-Life Balance and Job Satisfaction (2014-2023); and No.4 in Asia Pacific in Work-Family Dynamics and Employee Wellbeing (2013-2024).
