This presentation examines how U.S. manufacturing firms recover from disruptions and how their financial health shapes their inventory resilience. A central insight is that firms cannot rely on a single financial strategy—its effectiveness depends on the degree of financial constraint.

Firms with tighter financial conditions may rely more heavily on trade credit (buy now, pay later) to manage inventory and survive during periods of disruption. The presentation highlights the need for organisations to evaluate their financial flexibility before selecting resilience strategies, enabling managers to make informed, tailored decisions rather than applying one-size-fits-all approaches.

Professor Nachiappan Subramanian is a leading expert in supply chain management, sustainability, and digital transformation. He is a Professor at the University of Sussex Business School, UK, where he leads interdisciplinary research on the circular economy, innovation, and emerging technologies. With over two decades of academic and industry experience, Professor Nachi has published extensively in top-tier journals and collaborates globally with scholars, businesses, and policymakers. His work focuses on inclusive, resilient, and digitally enabled supply chains.
